Cricut Air 2 Cutter

Cricut Explore Air 2The Cricut Explore Air 2 is an easy-to-use cutting machine available for rent from the Cline Library MakerLab. Cut or draw your own designs with the Cricut Explore Air 2. Kit includes sticky mats, removal tools, and a fine tip pen set, though you will need to provide your own material. The machine is compatible with a variety of components such as vinyl, cardstock, paper, fabric, and more. The Cricut is available for in-library use by NAU and CCC students, faculty, and staff, as well as community members on a first-come, first-served basis.

Getting Started

  1. Plug the rectangular end of the USB cable into your computer.
  2. Log in to the computer. Open Google Chrome and go to https://design.cricut.com.
  3. Create Cricut ID or log in with your account.

Design It

  1. Visit design.cricut.com
  2. Launch Cricut Design Space by either:
    • downloading and opening the windows application, or 
    • selecting "Design space for Web'
  3. Create a Cricut ID and sign in to your account.
  4. Click on "My Projects" to access existing design or "New Projects" to create something new.

Make It

  1. Press the Open button on the left side of the machine.
  2. Remove the clear protectant sheet from the sticky Cricut mat; place your material on it.
  3. Use the dial to select material type.
  4. Insert mat into tray; click the double-sided arrow button to load materials.
  5. On your computer, click “Make It”
    • If cutting, there is no need to insert any tools since the blade is already in place. If drawing or writing, refer to the Draw It section.
  6. Press the flashing Cricut button on the machine to begin job.

Draw It

  1. In the design space, select the feature you would like to be drawn. Select "draw" in the Linetype drop-down menu. Cricut interface "cut"
  2. Adjust project or pen color as necessary.
  3. Grab the Cricut marker you wish to use; remove the cap.
  4. Insert marker into Slot A of the machine. You will hear a slight click once it fully snaps into place. Close the clamp around it.Loading the cricut
  5. Follow steps above for “Make It.”
