We are looking for motivated, independent, responsible, and customer-service oriented students to provide high-quality assistance to students, faculty, staff, and community members in the Cline Library Creation Commons. Creation Commons staff provide technical support, project consultations, and excellent customer service to our users related to hardware, software, 3D printing, multimedia production, and extended reality experiences in the library’s MakerLab and Studios. This position works alongside library staff to oversee library spaces, services, and equipment, as well as manage issues and improvements. Responsibilities include:
- Providing hardware and software support to library patrons in the MakerLab & Studios
- Managing, circulating, and repairing the library’s collection of lending equipment
- Independently processing 3D print requests for the MakerLab’s 3D printing service
- Providing in-depth consultations and training workshops related to creation-services
- Cleaning and maintaining the MakerLab, Studios, and associated library spaces
- Ensuring a safe work environment through proper use of tools and equipment
- Answering complex public questions using strong judgment and decision-making ability
- Working independently with minimal supervision, exercising independent initiative
Creation Commons Assistants may also be required to plan and instruct introductory workshops related to library creation-services, or work on other projects as required.
Skills and Abilities Needed:
- Strong knowledge of computer operations and ability to learn and adapt to changing library technology, including demonstrated ability to troubleshoot basic issues with common applications and equipment (Windows and Mac)
- Experience using and maintaining 3D printers (experience with MakerBot preferred)
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and users from diverse backgrounds
- Self-motivated, self-directed, well-organized, and able to work effectively with minimal to no direct supervision
- Excellent customer service skills, including a willingness to provide enthusiastic assistance to library users
- Demonstrated outstanding attention to detail, reliability, and conscientiousness
- Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills—including a strong proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English—to assist users in person and via phone and email in addition to writing technical documentation
- Ability to perform regular cleaning duties, including organizing supplies, cleaning tables, and maintaining equipment
- Flexible availability and willingness to pick up additional shifts as needed, including effectively communicating with coworkers outside of regularly scheduled hours
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be an active NAU student (i.e. enrolled in classes and degree- or certificate-seeking)
- Prior customer service or related experience required. Strong service and work ethic are our first priority--we'll train on technicalities of various equipment and software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two plus years of experience in a technology helpdesk environment (or similar)
- Experience creating and editing multimedia content (graphics, audio, video, etc.)
- Experience using virtual and augmented reality hardware and applications
- Experience using Arduino, Raspberry PI, and other prototyping components
- Experience slicing, preparing, and cleaning 3D models for 3D printing
- Experience with 3D scanning technologies, hardware, and software
- Knowledge of solid modeling and digital modeling software, including: TinkerCAD, Solidworks, AutoCAD, Cinema4D,
- Demonstrated making or crafting ability

- Some physical work may be assigned as needed, including using a step stool, lifting boxes, and light cleaning.
