Adulting or what you should know about in college: Home

"Adulting" is the term many college students hear when they leave high school because they are faced with being on their own for the first time. Some come with a lot of life skills already. Others do not.

Definitions

A few dictionary definitions include:

  1. From Cambridge Dictionary - actions and behavior that are considered typical of adults, not children or young people
  2. From Dictionary.comAdulting is an informal term to describe behavior that is seen as responsible and grown-up. This behavior often involves meeting the mundane demands of independent and professional living, such as paying bills and running errands.
  3. From Merriam-Webster - The verb 'adulting' is all grown up.

Below are a couple of videos that talk about what it means to become an adult, with some tips on how you do that. One of the main concepts of the first video is that this new way of living has no specific "game plan." You learn how to take care of yourself by making your own decisions, and if something doesn't work out, you have to regroup and try something else.

This guide is here to help you learn how to make dorm-friendly meals, how to find books on stress and anxiety relief, and even learn how to apply for financial aid. So, whether you're in the dorms, living off-campus, or still at home with your family, there is helpful information for any new adult learning how to not just survive but to thrive with what they have. 

Why do we say adulting is hard? Two videos
