Writing Styles with APA Manual of Style, 7th Edition

This guide is to help you use the American Psychological Association (APA) Publication Manual of Style for your assignments here at NAU-Yuma. It is intended to help you succeed in your course work, and I am very happy to help if you need extra assistance; however, this guide should allow you to work at your own pace and hopefully be able to be as independent as you wish. If something does not make sense or is different from what your Instructor says, please notify me.

What is APA?

How To Write a College Essay, With Examples | Grammarly

The APA (American Psychological Association) Style was created to set a standard of rules for publication in order that all publications would conform to a similar style.  It would make certain that publication and editing be easier for production as well as ensure readers know how to locate vital information in each article including case studies, research papers, surveys, assessments, etc.  Within this Manual of Style, agreed upon rules determined by the APA include two forms of citation:

  1. In the body of the manuscript when you provide an "in-text" citation which acknowledge how others contribute to your work
  2. Typically, you will add a  "Reference list" to the end of your paper to provide your reader the information needed to identify and retrieve the material you used in your paper.
