How to Find Primary Sources in History: Welcome!

Use the tabs above to locate information sources to help you with your history research.

What is a Primary Source?

Primary sources are information sources created during the time period you are studying. This can include letters, correspondence, diaries, documents, interviews, photos, speeches, legal documents, treaties, art works, poems, newspapers, videos, radio and television programs.

In contrast, secondary sources interpret, analyze or evaluate primary sources and are written after an event has taken place.

An example of a digitized primary source can be found here.
