WGS300w: Feminist Theories

Use this guide throughout your research-focused coursework for WGS300w

Getting Started with Wikipedia

You (along with everyone else) have the ability to edit Wikipedia! It's not always clear how to get involved, so here are some practical tips when you're just starting out.

To get started on your own or for a class project:

  1. Create a Wikipedia account, if you do not already have one.
  2. Learn more about Wikipedia's guidelines and etiquette.
  3. Review Wikipedia's training materials and information below to learn everything you need to know about editing.
  4. Check out the Community Portal of Wikipedia to practice fixing common issues and interact with other Wikipedians.
  5. Want short video tutorials? Check out Art+Feminism's editing kit for beginners and intermediate Wikipedians.

Don't forget to do your research when editing!

  1. See suggested databases for WGS to get started.
  2. If you are editing a page related to another discipline you may check out our research guides and find more resources in that subject area.
  3. If you need help from a librarian, please contact us! We'll help you find the resources you need to make meaningful and substantial edits to any Wikipedia page you are working on.

Questions to consider as you edit:

  1.     What do you think motivates most contributors on Wikipedia? What motivates you?
  2.     Who is the audience for a Wikipedia article? Who might not have access to Wikipedia?
  3.     How do your contributions to Wikipedia deepen understanding and/or create knowledge on your topic?
