Who: Usually written by journalists or bloggers for everyone interested in movies.

When: Published close to the time the movie is released.

What: Article intended to advance the scholarly conversation about the film – content many include analyses of plot, characters, or cinematic techniques; comparisons to other films; or assessments of the cultural significance of the film.

Who: Written by scholars/academics for other scholars/academics.

When: Published years or decades after the movie is released.
